Following his speech to the United Nations on Thursday, in which he called for the international community to come together in stopping Iran’s continued enrichment of the uranium needed to make a nuclear bomb, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu traveled to Manhattan’s Upper East Side to meet with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
“It’s important to be clear and unambiguous about our determination to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu said at Gracie Mansion while standing next to Bloomberg. “I’ve often found myself saying things that ultimately are accepted, and are seen as necessary.”
Bloomberg seemed to endorse President Obama’s speech to the UN on Tuesday, where he affirmed the American position that Iran cannot be allowed to develop a nuclear weapons capability.
“I thought President Obama gave an excellent speech in the UN. And he was absolutely right to say that Iran must not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons,” said Bloomberg. “The U.S. and Israel are in complete agreement on that.”
Bloomberg referred to the case Netanyahu made at the United Nations earlier on Thursday as “compelling”, while speaking to reporters.
“I’m sure that the U.S. and Israel can work out a common policy in the interests of both nations, and in the interests of peace,” he said.
