Mitt Romney’s campaign has confirmed that the presidential candidate will speak with Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of of Israel, on Friday.
The conversation, which will take place on the same day Netanyahu speaks with President Obama, comes nearly 24 hours after the Israeli leader used his time at the United Nations General Assembly to urge the international community to stop Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
While differences between Washington and Jerusalem on setting red lines for Iran and its nuclear program – which if crossed would invoke a military response – have been made public in recent weeks, Netanyahu made no mention of his disagreement with President Obama on Thursday, only thanking the U.S. Commander-in-Chief for what he said all Israelis appreciate: Obama’s public affirmation at the United Nations that Iran cannot be allowed to attain a nuclear weapon.
Mitt Romney has been critical of President Obama’s policies towards Israel, including the decision not to meet with Netanyahu while he traveled to the United States this week.
