The Jewish youth is beaten after resisting arrest.

A demonstration is being planned for Friday at 2 p.m. to protest the case of Ehud Halevy, the 21-year old whose beating at the hands of two NYPD officers last week was captured on videotape. It’s to commence at the Jewish Children’s Museum at the corner of Kingston Avenue and Eastern Parkway in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn and conclude at the 71st Precinct. A source involved with the demonstration, who described himself as a friend of Ehud Halevy, told The Algemeiner that the demonstration would be orderly and that Norman Siegel, the lawyer representing Halevy, who has been charged with assault, will hold a press conference.

“We are calling for the false criminal charges to be dropped and for the violent officers to be fired and brought to trial,” a protest organizer told community blog Collive.com.
Police officers arrived at a Crown Heights religious center October 8th after receiving a call from a security guard. The video shows that a violent physical confrontation with Halevy ensued.

According to the New York Daily News officer Luis Vega, who threw most of the punches captured on the surveillance tape, has been placed on desk duty while Internal Affairs investigates the case. His partner Yelena Bruzzese has had no action taken against her.

The article also quotes his Halevy’s brother, who did not want to be named, as supporting the officers. “I just think cops are here to protect us and if we abuse them, they abuse us,” he is reported as saying.

As to accusations that Halevy provoked the officers and threatened them, the source The Algemeiner spoke to had this to say: “I’m not sure of the details, I wasn’t there. It’s clear that these officers’ actions were against police protocol. I’m sure the NYPD doesn’t teach their officers to greet somebody with a punch to the face.”
