Two men assaulted a Jewish schoolboy in Paris’ 19th arrondissement Monday. According to a report on JTA.com, the two men hurled insults in Arabic at the 12 year-old boy, whipped him with a belt and told him to remain silent.
In a recently published report, the SPCJ, the security unit of France’s Jewish community, counted 386 “anti-semitic acts,” having been committed so far this year in France, 101 of which were considered “violent.” This is a 45% increase from a year ago, when the SPCJ reported 266 such incidents.
The Algemeiner was unable to reach the SPCJ for comment.
Tuesday French authorities released a scathing report of the country’s intelligence agency, the DCRI, for failing to identify Mohamed Merah, 23, as a threat. The Muslim youth, who killed a total of seven people earlier this year, including a rabbi and three children in Toulouse in March, had at least 15 previous criminal convictions.
