Multi-platinum Israeli singer-songwriter David Broza embarked on a mini North American tour this past weekend, with stops in San Francisco, Seattle and Chicago, among others. Considered one of the most dynamic and vibrant performers to come out of Israel since the late 1970’s, Broza has long been an international music superstar.
Having been raised in Israel, Spain and England, Broza has been known to utilize his ability to take on the troubadour tradition, featuring lyrics of the worlds’ greatest poets. His global accolades include a Spanish royal medal of honor, from the King of Spain, Juan Carlos I, for his longtime contribution to Israel-Spain relations and his promotion of tolerance.
With musical inspiration from icons including Paul Simon, Bob Dylan and Mercedes Sosa, Broza is eager to tour the US & Canada. “The great thing about performing out of Israel is the actual presentation of the show, songs, stories in front of audiences that have little, if any idea of where I’m coming from”, said Broza in a special interview with The Algemeiner, “I love taking the audience on a journey through my songs and have them give themselves in to the power of the performance”.
DC: What’s the most special place you have ever performed at?
DB: “I’m not sure if there is a place more special than Masada . But I think that if I were to land a show at the Carnegie hall, which I’ve played at before, that would be amazing”.
DC: What can the audience expect in your North American tour?
DB: “My tour now is one that consists of songs from my 35 year career. I sing a lot of my better known Hebrew songs and then take the audience through a journey by including songs from some of my Spanish and American albums. I am having a lot of fun”.
DC: Are you asked about Israel often?
DB: “Israel is not an issue in my shows. It is part of my show. The songs in Hebrew, my history, Yehonatan Geffen, Meir Ariel etc. They are part of my life story and career. I have had in past issues with anti Israel protesters , however there was never a real confrontation”.
Upcoming tour dates: Houston, TX 11/10; Minneapolis, MN 11/11; Chicago, IL 11/12; Columbus, OH 11/14; Los Angeles, CA 11/15; Montreal, Canada 11/21; Ottawa, Canada 11/24. For information about David Broza, visit his official website.
