A report from Israel’s Channel 2 says that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has passed chemical weapons along to Hezbollah. Channel 2 cites Syrian media which uses as its source officers that have defected from Assad’s army. Channel 2 does, however, maintain that the report is almost impossible to verify.
Fears that Assad plans to use chemical and biological weapons on civilians and Syrian rebels have intensified in recent days as intelligence reports point to the Syrian regime’s increasing activity around its stockpile of weapons. An earlier story from London’s Sunday Times reported that Israel has sent special forces into Syria to track the WMDs, and other world leaders have threatened to use military action against Assad’s army if it uses them.
