They say art is the best investment, which is why the object holding those Hanukkah candles you’re lighting each evening might be the best gift of all–if you have real monetary value in mind.
Jonathan Greenstein, of J. Greenstein and Co., appeared on the Fox Business Channel Monday to show-off some of the more expensive and beautiful menorahs on the market (albeit a very niche market). One of the menorahs, from the mid-19th century, has a going rate of $100,000.
Greenstein, when questioned as to whether the menorahs could become an object of desire among non-Jews had this to say: “I welcome anybody that can appreciate our Jewish history and Jewish art, whether they do it for dollars or do it for beauty.”
“The value of an antique Jewish ritual object increases in what we call ‘sexiness,” Greenstein said. And sexiness appeals to everybody.
