A spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that his country’s relations with Hamas and Islamic Jihad are as strong as they’ve ever been. He also claimed that the Western media was trying to “drive a wedge” between Iran and its terror proxies in the Gaza Strip, according to the Iranian Mehr News Agency.
The spokesperson said that support for the struggle of the Arab people is a matter of principle for Iran.
During Israel’s recent Operation Pillar of Defense, terror organizations in the Gaza Strip launched Iranian-made Fajr-5 rockets at Israel. Iranian Parliament speaker Ali Larijani confirmed that Iran had supplied weapons to the terror groups, saying, “We are proud to defend the people of Palestine and Hamas … and that our assistance to them has been both financial and military.”
In the wake of the conflict reports surfaced that Israel had identified a new shipment of Fajr-5 rockets headed to Gaza from Iran.
Despite tensions over Syria, Iran continues to consider terror organizations in the Gaza Strip strategic allies in their fight against Israel.
