A big Mazel Tov is in order for Rabbi Yosel Tiefenbrun, a Brit whose sartorial sensibilities have earned him kudos from some of the most fashion savvy folks around. In fact, as an article in the Jewish Chronicle illustrates, the rabbi “was so well-dressed at the Golden Shears Awards ceremony last month that GQ magazine named him ‘best in show.'”
“There is no reason why religious people shouldn’t dress well,” said the rabbi.
The Golden Shears Awards honor the best in British tailoring and design.
But Tiefenbrun’s affinity should come as no surprise. Not only is he a rabbi but an apprentice at Savile Row tailor Maurice Sedwell as well.
After two years working as a rabbi in a Chabad synagogue in Singapore, Tiefenbrun, 23, studied design at Newham College in London.
Tiefenbrun’s father is a cantor and says he supports his son’s interest. “The Jewish roots in tailoring are well-known. My family is very religious but very open minded and supportive,” he said.
