Israel’s Defense Minister, Moshe Ya’alon, on Monday implied that the country was behind a January strike on a weapons convoy in Syria, saying the Jewish state had acted to stop advanced weapons from reaching Hezbollah terrorists.
Ya’alon said Israel would not permit “sophisticated weapons” to fall into the hands of “Hezbollah or other rogue elements.”
“When they crossed this red line, we acted,” Ya’alon said.
Yaalon noted that the transfer of Syrian chemical weapons into the hands of terrorists would constitute crossing a red line, but one which so far “has not been tested yet.”
On January 30th, Syria reported, and Western officials confirmed, that an airstrike had taken place in Syria and that Israel had conducted it.
According to the official the target was not only the weapons convoy, but an adjacent military complex suspected of housing chemical weapons, as well.
