Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Tuesday addressed the targeted assassination of a terrorist in Gaza as well as a terrorist attack in the West Bank that left an Israeli man dead.
“Today we struck at one of those involved in the criminal firing of rockets at Eilat,” Netanyahu said of the assassination of Hithem Ziad Ibrahim Masshal, 24, a terrorist known for his specialization with weapons and who was wanted in conjunction with a rocket attack on Eilat earlier in the month.
“I said that we would not ignore this; our action is in continuation of our policy. We will not accept the sporadic firing of rockets from either the Gaza Strip or Sinai. We will act, and are acting, in order to defend Israeli citizens.”
The Prime Minister also communicated his sadness over the murder of the 32-year-old father of five in the West bank earlier in the day.
“I would also like to express my condolences and those of the entire country to the family of Evyatar Borovsky. The terrorist who perpetrated the murder has been captured and we will continue to act on this front as well in order to defend our citizens.”
Borovsky’s assailant stabbed the Israeli, grabbed his weapon, and according to some accounts shot him at close range. He then fired at nearby border police, who returned fire and succeeded in subduing him.
