Britain’s Lord Ahmed Resigns Amid ‘Jewish Conspiracy’ Controversy

Lord Ahmed has resigned from Britain’s Labour Party ahead of a disciplinary hearing into claims he made comments about a Jewish conspiracy that led to his incarceration.
He was due to appear before Labour’s ruling National Executive Committee on Wednesday. He was suspended by the party in March after The Times reported he blamed his 2009 prison sentence – for sending text messages shortly before his car was involved in a fatal crash – on pressure placed on the courts by Jews ”who own newspapers and TV channels.”
The Muslim peer allegedly told an Urdu-language broadcaster in Pakistan that the judge who jailed him for 12 weeks was appointed to the High Court after helping a ”Jewish colleague” of Tony Blair during an important case.
In his resignation letter to party executives Lord Ahmed wrote: “I have been considering my position over the weekend and have concluded that I should resign from the membership… I reject the core story that emerges out of the alleged interview.”
Referring to an earlier apology he made in the case, Lord Ahmed said: “Needless to say that I have many Jewish friends and I felt it was important and necessary to do this.”
