At a meeting of Israel’s Emergency Economy Committee to summarize this week’s home front drill, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned of the country’s increased exposure to enemy threats.
“The Israeli home front is more accessible to the enemy than it has been,” he told a group composed of the director-generals of all government ministries, as well as representatives of other organizations.
“We are deep in the era of missiles that are aimed at civilian population areas. Operation Pillar of Defense is a small example of the substantial changes in modes of attack. We must prepare defensively and offensively for the new era of warfare.”
The national defense drill kicked off earlier this week. Code-named “Home Front Eitan 1,” according to the Times of Israel, the exercise was meant to drill the civilian population as well as military and emergency services for a possible war scenario, primarily with Syria and/or Lebanon.
