The fissure between Hamas’ political and military wings is widening according to a Palestine Press Agency report.
According to anonymous pro-Israel blogger Elder of Ziyon, the rift is over the al-Qassam Brigades’ wanting to ally with Hezbollah and Iran in the Syrian civil war. However, Hamas’ political arm, lead by Khaled Meshal, wants to support the Syrian rebels.
The report says that Hezbollah has expelled Hamas from Lebanon because of Meshal’s position.
The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt is trying to fix the rift, the report states. Muhammad Badi, leader of the Muslim Brotherhood movement, and his deputy Khairat Al-Shater tried and failed to bridge the divide, which led to the postponement of a Hamas Shura Council meeting that was supposed to convene last Monday in Cairo.
