A Big mazel tov to a certain stuffed bird!
The mascot for the Brooklyn Cyclones baseball team has reached the age of manhood, and he’s celebrating it the only way he knows how: with a Bar Mitzvah.
Officials for the team, which is a New York Mets minor-league affiliate, are throwing mascot Sandy the Seagull the party as part of Jewish Heritage Night at MCU Park on Sunday.
According to the New York Daily News, fans are invited to come to the field at 3 p.m. and help lift Sandy the Seagull in a chair when they dance the Horah, a traditional Jewish dance.
But that’s just the beginning. 18 rabbis will throw out the first pitch before the game and players will wear Hebrew Cyclones jerseys during it.
Sandy the character is Jewish through-and through: his name is in honor of former Brooklyn-LA Dodger Sandy Koufax.
