Newly elected Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta met Monday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem.
At the start of their meeting Netanyahu touched on the main topics of discussion between the two leaders, including efforts towards jump-starting peace talks with the Palestinian Authority and the prolific terrorist activities of Hezbollah. Regarding Iran’s nuclear weapons program, Netanyahu called the ratcheting up of sanctions against Iran “the only thing that might produce results if coupled with a credible military threat.”
On peace talks, Netanyahu reiterated his desire to restart negotiations. “We want to restart peace negotiations as soon as possible, without any obstacles. We have to get into the tent and stay in the tent and seek to end this conflict between Israel and the Palestinians,” he said.
Netanyahu also repeated calls for Europe to blacklist Lebanese terror group Hezbollah. “I think that it’s important that Europe designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. Because if Hezbollah isn’t a terrorist organization, I don’t know what a terrorist organization is,” he said.
