The Israel Defense Forces installed an Iron Dome defense system battery in Eilat after a 122mm Grad rocket was fired towards the city from Sinai, Israel’s Channel 2 reported on Friday, citing the IDF.
The IDF explained that the “Iron Dome is deployed from time to time at various places throughout the country depending on the situation,” and confirmed that “The system is currently stationed in Eilat. ” A resort destination, Eilat traditionally receives 30,000 visitors in July and August.
Last week, a Grad rocket was fired towards Eilat, with the rocket landing to the north of the city. The city went into orange alert, before returning to normal.
Yesterday, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said the turmoil in Egypt has emboldened “terrorist groups, armed from head to toe, and ruthless, who will try to hurt us against terrorism and rockets.”
