An affiliate of British insurance company Lloyd’s of London has offered a $1.3 million reward for information leading to the capture of the jewel thief who stole a $130 million diamond collection from Israeli billionaire Lev Leviev, Reuters reported.
“A reward of up to 1,000,000 euros pro rata is offered to the first person who provides information which leads to recovery of the goods,” SW Associates, a Paris-based loss adjuster and risk manager working for Lloyd’s of London, said in a statement.
According to police, last month a jewel thief disguised with a hat, scarf and wielding an automatic pistol entered the Carlton International Hotel, where the iconic 1955 Alfred Hitchcock heist movie “To Catch A Thief” was filmed, threatened the unarmed guards that were overseeing Leviev’s gems and disappeared down a side street with a briefcase containing 72 pieces of diamond jewelry.
Reuters said that In 2008, SW Associates offered a $1 million reward for information about the perpetrators of $105 million jewel heist from a Harry Winston store in Paris and recovered more than half the stolen pieces thanks to information from the public.
