Apple Buys Defunct Israeli TV Guide App Matcha.TV

Apple Inc., the world’s largest technology company, has recently acquired defunct Israeli app Matcha. TV for between 1 and $1.5 million, VentureBeat reported, though other market sources have the number as high as $10 million.
Run by CEO Guy Piekarz, Matcha.tv provided information about everything available for viewing on cable and satellite television, streaming video services, and digital video stores. The app, however, has not been available for purchase in the Apple iTunes store since May. According to VentureBeat though, Piekarz previously told TechCrunch that the service wasn’t gone for good, but instead would be working on a new direction.
“Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans,” said Apple responding to a request for comment from VentureBeat. Piekarz declined to comment.
