Students in Iran will be taught how to hunt U.S. drone aircraft by the country’s Revolutionary Guards paramilitary units, the Associated Press reported on Monday, citing an article from pro-reform Iranian daily Etemad.
The new program will be taught in high schools this year as part of a “Defensive Readiness” class, according to General Ali Fazli, acting commander of the Guard’s Basij militia, Etemad said.
The AP said details of the plans were not disclosed, but Etemad suggested that “students would be taught how to track and bring down drone aircraft by hacking their computer systems.”
The course will be an extension of current curricula on “civil defense,” which aims to instill the military’s values in Iranian children.
Aiming to capture U.S. drones has been a focus of the Iranian regime since a Lockheed Martin-designed RQ-170 Sentinel was caught in Iranian airspace in 2011. Tehran has since claimed to have captured more drones, including a ScanEagle, designed by Boeing, according to AP.
