After initial reports that rockets fired this morning from Lebanon into Israel caused no damages, newly released images show a scene of destruction in a Northern Israel civilian neighborhood.
The photos, taken by Shay Vaknin of the Tazpit News Agency show Israeli security personnel working to dislodge a rocket embedded in the ground. Significant damage from the rocket inflicted on nearby buildings and cars can be seen in the photos.
In a statement, the Israeli Defense Forces said that two out of four rockets fired today at Northern Israel struck populated areas, although no injuries were reported.
The Times of Israel reported that one of the rockets exploded near an Acre facility housing dozens of Holocaust survivors.
“This reinforces the threat faced by the civilians of Israel on all fronts. Such act of aggression is a clear attempt to target and terrorize the civilian communities of Northern Israel, a situation that would not be tolerated anywhere else in the world. The IDF will continue to operate against those who seek to harm the civilians of this country,” said IDF spokesperson Peter Lerner.
The IDF said that it holds the Government of Lebanon and the Lebanese Armed Forces to be responsible for the attack.
Images of the scene of the attack can be viewed below.
