American Apparel–founded by proud Jew Dov Charney— makes no secret of its inspiration derived from Chasidic style, going so far as to name a nail polish color after the religious sect. So it should come as no surprise that it recently featured a Chasidic Jew on its website, modeling traditional Chasidic—err, American Apparel clothing.
“Yoel [Weishauss],” an accompanying article explains, “a Chasidish Jew who grew up in a Yiddish speaking home in Brooklyn, attended yeshiva at an early age. Yoel is a peasant with chutzpah known for suing the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey over its controversial toll hikes, at prices that exceed twofold what one earns per hour under minimum wage.”
No word on whether the kippah or fur hat are also for sale, but The Algemeiner applauds the apparel maker for nudging hipsters the world over toward a more understated Chasidic style.
