Another round of violent clashes erupted in Cairo following Friday prayers, Egyptian state news agency MENA reported.
Security forces fired teargas at supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi who had taken to the streets near Tahrir Square.
Supporters of Morsi, the former Islamist president ousted by the military on July 3 following mass protests against his year-long rule, have consistently held protests since his removal from office.
In eastern Cairo, MENA reported that state security successfully blocked attempts by pro-Morsi protesters to march on the Defense Ministry headquarters.
The Egyptian Independent reported that thousands of Morsi supporters are staging demonstrations across the country. In Alexandria “fierce clashes” broke out between pro-Morsi and pro-government supporters, it said.
Bladed weapons and rocks were used in the riots, and a number of people were injured, The Egyptian Independent reported.
