Lebanese newspaper, An-Nahar, has revealed new details about the assassination of senior Hezbollah member Hassan al-Laqqis. Armed men waited for his car to pull up at night into his Beirut home. When he came out of the car they shot him several times at close range using pistols with silencers, the newspaper reported.
The new details about the assassination of al-Laqqis, who was responsible for several acts of terror against Israel, revealed information that could cause turmoil at the top of the Shiite terrorist organization.
Shortly after the assassination, Hezbollah officials were quick to point the finger at Israel and promised to avenge his death. “Israel will be responsible for what happens following the assassination,” the organization said in a statement.
“The assassination is a clear Israeli action,” a Hezbollah source said, stressing that such action is consistent with the objectives of Arab countries that have common interests with Israel against the Lebanon-based terrorist organization’s activities.
Another Lebanese newspaper published a report that Israel had tried to eliminate al-Laqqis during the Second Lebanon War from the air.
Israeli officials this morning closely followed media reports from Lebanon, but rejected the claims of the terrorist organization. Senior defense officials said today “not to rush and buy Hezbollah’s version.” They went on to say that Hezbollah is preoccupied with internal strife in Lebanon in light of its continued support of the Assad regime in Syria.
