JNS.org – Poverty levels in Israel in 2012 were slightly lower than in previous years, though about a third of the children in the country—817,000—are living in poverty, according to a report released Tuesday by the National Insurance Institute.
The number of Israeli families living under the poverty line dropped by 19.4 percent, to about 440,000, the report said.
Additionally, the report showed a small increase in the number of families living under the poverty line despite having working parents. Some 5 percent of all families under the poverty line claimed two working parents.
Conversely, the report signaled a positive trend in that the disposable income per capita in Israel increased in real terms by 10.9 percent.
