On Saturday night, the Arab League formally stated its opposition to certain key aspects of the U.S. plan for security arrangements between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot reported. A report regarding the current state of ongoing negotiations between Israel and the PA was presented Saturday night by Arab League Secretary General Nabil al-Araby at a meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Cairo.
The report stated that the program floated by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is a non starter since it focuses on Israel’s stated security concerns at the expense of political and final status issues. Specifically, the Arab League report alleges that the U.S.-backed security arrangements will ensure continued Israeli control of the Jordan Valley.
Al-Araby said on Saturday that a peace deal that includes continued Israeli presence in a Palestinian state cannot work.
