The Israeli policeman who was stabbed in the back yesterday by an Arab attacker at the Adam Junction in Israel’s Benyamin region has regained consciousness and is now breathing without the aid of a respirator, Israeli daily Walla reported Tuesday.
The policeman, 41-year-old Rami Ravid, is currently being treated at the intensive care unit of Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center. His condition is listed as stable, according to Walla.
Ravid ‘s brother, Jackie Ravizada, relayed some of the details of yesterday’s harrowing events to Walla. “First, he [Rami] called his ex-wife and told her to look after the children… I was on duty as a fire station commander in Givat Zeev and I heard the report of a police officer being stabbed. I immediately called Rami. He answered and told me that he had been stabbed in the back. I dropped everything and raced to the hospital. When I arrived, he was already in the operating room.”
Regarding his brother’s prospects for a full recovery, Jackie told Walla that Rami, “..woke up talking and laughing. We feel that a great miracle has occurred here.”
Following the attack on Ravid, Israeli Police launched a search of the area where the stabbing took place and efforts are currently underway to track down the suspect, believed to be residing in one of the nearby Arab villages.
