Israel’s Air Force struck two terror sites in the central and southern Gaza Strip on Monday, in response to rocket fire aimed towards the Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council earlier in the day, IDF Spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said.
In a statement, Lt. Col. Lerner said the “infrastructure was used to enhance terror capabilities against Israel,” and confirmed that both targets were hit.
“The Terrorists and their infrastructure operating in the Gaza Strip will not succeed in their grotesque intentions,” he said. “The IDF will seek them out, eliminate their capabilities and pursue them wherever they may hide. Hamas and its terrorist servants are not immune; it is our moral obligation and calling to protect Israel against such atrocious acts.”
The rocket attacks came shortly after two dozen world leaders gathered for the funeral of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon at the grounds of his 1,000-acre Sycamore Farm, just six miles from Gaza. Both rockets landed in open fields and no damage or injuries were reported.
