A high ranking member of the Central Committee of Fatah said that a violent insurgency could soon be launched by Palestinian Arabs against Israel, Israeli daily Ma’ariv reported on Sunday.
Tawfiq Tirawi, who belongs to the same ruling political organization as Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, asserted that in 20 years there will still be no Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and therefore violent uprising against Israel must be renewed among other forms of “resistance,” the Al Mayadeen Pan Arabic network reported.
“The big explosion in Palestine is coming. All of Israel’s actions have placed the Palestinian public under immense pressure. They have no choice but to explode in the face of the occupation,” he said.
While claiming that Palestinian independence can be acheived by reverting to violence, the senior level Fatah member said that changing the status quo is only possible if, “We act in unison, those who are members of the PLO [Palestine Liberation Organization] as well as those who are not,” Al Mayadeen said.
Fatah, currently headed by Abbas, is the largest political party in the PLO.
Regarding U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s recent assertion that he is planning to present an Israeli-Palestinian Authority framework deal “within weeks,” Tirawi said during the latest meeting of the Central Committee of Fatah, held in Bethlehem, that “John Kerry’s framework agreement will be rejected by the Palestinians.”
