Wael Mansour, an Egyptian radio personality and voice-over artist, told Twitter followers that the Walt Disney Company dropped him as the voice of Donald Duck for its cartoons broadcast in the Arab world after he called for the destruction of Israel last summer.
In a tweet dated February 6, Mansour told followers that he was “Proud!” of his punishment.
The scandal erupted in August, 2013, when Mansour, from Cairo, lashed out at Israel in tweets that were brought to the attention of Disney, in Burbank, California.
“I truly wish #Israel is demolished, I hate Zionism, I have so much hate inside me with every single child they murder or land they seize!” Mansour tweeted. He also wrote: “I don’t know why insulting #Israel & #Zionism is ‘Anti-Semitic’?! They are just a bunch of Polish/ Ethiopian immigrants roughly 70 years old.”
At the time, Disney, through a spokesperson, tried to distance itself from the voice-over artist, noting that he was actually not their employee, as Mansour’s contract was with a third-party dubbing company, though the company said that hate-speech would not be tolerated.
Abigail Disney, whose grandfather, Roy, helped to establish the Walt Disney Company with his brother Walt, came out more directly against Mansour. She described his tweet, via Twitter, as, “Repellent, of course.”
