Anne Frank Diary, Hundreds of Holocaust Books Found Vandalized in Tokyo Library

JNS.org – Hundreds of copies of the “Diary of Anne Frank,” along with other books on the Holocaust, were found vandalized in libraries across Japan.
According to reports, 31 municipal libraries across Japan had found at least 265 copies of the diary with pages torn or ripped out.
Yoshihide Suga, a top government spokesman, expressed disappointment and promised an investigation. “It is extremely regrettable and shameful,” he told Japanese reporters, according to the New York Times.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center expressed its “shock and deep concern” over the vandalism.
“The geographic scope of these incidents strongly suggest an organized effort to denigrate the memory of the most famous of the 1.5 million Jewish children murdered by the Nazis in the World War II Holocaust,” Rabbi Abraham Cooper, associate Dean of the Wiesenthal Center, said in a statement.
Cooper added that he hopes Japanese authorities will investigate and prosecute whoever is behind this.
“I know from my many visits to Japan, how much Anne Frank is studied and revered by millions of Japanese,” he said.
