A photo of The Mindy Project star Chris Messina wearing a yarmulke caused a stir on Twitter Thursday and had social media users gushing over his choice of religious headgear.
One of the show’s writers, David Stassen, uploaded the photo on the micro blogging site with the caption “Nice Jewish boy,” and Twitter users responded positively. One wrote, “As someone who used to dream of dating a jewish boy (not a joke), this picture is my EVERYTHING.”
Another commenter asked, “I’m CATHOLIC, why is this so attractive?” and another said, “hey now, hey now, this is what dreams are made of.” Some social media users joked about the image with one writing, “PLEASE tell me he’s practicing for his Bar Mitzvah…or bris.”
The photo also prompted some Twitter users to break out the Yiddish, saying, “what a mensch” and “I’m kvelling over all this mishegas.”
It is unclear why Messina, who is not Jewish, donned the skullcap and he has not publicly commented on the photo.
The Mindy Project premiered on FOX in 2012 and returns with a new season on April 1. The series follows an OB/GYN (Mindy Kaling) who tries to balance her personal and professional life. Mindy shares a practice with two doctors, one being Dr. Danny Castellano (Messina). Messina also had starring roles in Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Argo.
