Iran has been studying Israel Defense Force’s military technique, including analyzing the assault patterns used by Israel during the 33-day war with Lebanon in Summer 2006, Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali, head of Iran’s Civil Defense Organization, announced for the first time on Monday, according to Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency.
Speaking at a conference called ‘The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’s Defensive Engineering,” in Tehran, Jalali said, “After Hezbollah’s 33-day war we sent a team to Lebanon and studied the models of Israel’s assault on the Lebanese buildings and collected 5,000 images of all the destroyed buildings.”
Jalali said Iranian military engineers analyzed the power and reach of the Israeli explosives used, and concluded that “the damage inflicted on targets by the Israeli army is more the result of the engineering patterns used during the sabotage operations or raid and assault than the explosive power of their bombs or ammunition,” according to Fars.
In the broader scope of regional warfare, Jalali said, “Threats against us changed after the U.S. presence in the region and invasion against Iraq” caused Iran to modify its tactics.
“Subsequently, the IRGC commanders spent some time to change their (operational) doctrine and we came to the conclusion that we should avoid specific points and exercise mosaic defense (a flexible and layered defense) on our agenda,” Jalali said.
Fars also published comments about the IRGC by Jalali from 2012: “The IRGC has been the Islamic establishment’s winning card in the confrontation against different threats and the underlying cause of its stability against various invasions.”
“Its ideological nature and its defense of the Islamic Revolution causes and ideals has made it so distinct from other armies that even enemies of Iran believe that this is a key point,” Jalali said. “In the last 33 years after the Islamic Revolution, the IRGC has succeeded in having an active presence on all scenes where the revolution has been endangered and has always been able to manage them,” he added.
The IRGC has defended Iran in “plane hijackings, border skirmishes and insecurities and soft war, and has served as the underlying cause of the ruling establishment’s resistance and stability against such threats,” Fars reported that Jalali said in 2012.
