The Mindy Project star Chris Messina will sport an Orthodox Jewish style black hat for one of the show’s upcoming episodes, the owner of Los Angeles based Hollywood Hatters, which provided the headgear, told The Algemeiner on Monday.

“They came in asking for an Orthodox, Jewish black hat for The Mindy Project. They were actually very anxious for it,” owner Sal Rovero said. “I got two people: one person from wardrobe and then the wardrobe person on set. They really were desperate to buy one. I got three calls on it.”

Last week, one of the show’s writers, David Stassen, posted a photo on Twitter of the non-Jewish actor wearing a yarmulka. He captioned the photo, “Nice Jewish boy.”

Messina has not publicly commented on the photo but after seeing the picture, Rovero told The Algemeiner that the image was likely snapped during the production of the upcoming Jewish-themed episode.

“I’m pretty sure they’re gonna use it (the yarmulka) in that episode to support the show,” he said. “I wish I knew more about the episode. I didn’t ask.”

The Mindy Project returns to FOX with a new season on April 1.  Messina stars in the comedy as Dr. Danny Castellano.
