British Soccer Star Anelka Handed 5-Match Ban and £80,000 Fine for Anti-Semitic ‘Quenelle’ Salute

Evening Standard – West Brom striker Nicolas Anelka has been suspended for five games and fined £80,000 following an investigation into his ‘quenelle’ gesture, the Football Association announced today.

The Frenchman had denied that his use of the gesture, which has been described as an “inverted Nazi salute,” was anti-Semitic in the 3-3 draw with West Ham in December.
