Brit Award-nominee musician Alex Clare took to the streets of New York City’s Times Square on Saturday night to lead a huge group of Jewish teens in a rocking rendition of Havdalah, a prayer said at the conclusion of the Jewish Sabbath.
The gathering was organized by Jewish outreach group Chabad for young Jews.
Rabbi Eisenbach a Chabad rabbi from Connecticut, on Twitter, wrote, “You probably know Alex Clare (#TooClose) – but you’ve never seen him like this! @Times Square for 1000+ Chabad Teens.”
Another fan who happened to chance upon the performance wrote, “Gone to New York, shopping, maccy d’s, saw Alex Clare live accidentally, watched Jewish convention and met Alex Clare.”
A clip of the concert was posted by Jewish comedy site Jewbellish on Facebook.
Alex Clare, formerly known as Alexander G. Muertos, is best known for his hit ‘Too Close’ from his ‘The Lateness of the Hour’ album released in 2011. The song peaked at #4 on the UK Singles Chart and #7 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It was nominated for the Brit Awards for Best British Single. Clare is an Orthodox Jew.
