Egyptian Jewish Leader Nadia Haroun Dies From Heart Attack

Nadia Haroun, an Egyptian lawyer and deputy head of its Jewish community, passed away late Thursday night after suffering a heart attack, Egypt’s al Ahram daily reported.
Haroun’s funeral will be held on Tuesday at the Adly Synagogue, in Cairo.
Nadia Haroun is the younger sister of Magda Haroun, the current head of Egypt’s Jewish community. They are both daughters of activist Shehata Haroun, who remained in Egypt even as many Jews fled following the founding of the State of Israel. Shehata Haroun was known for his opposition to the Camp David accords, according to al Ahram.
Nadia Haroun was married to activist Ahmed Qassem and is survived by a son and a daughter.
According to estimates, Al Ahram said there are less than 100 Jews living in Egypt.
