‘Disturbed’ Rocker David Draiman Curses John Kerry Over Jewish State Comments (UPDATE)
by Shiryn Ghermezian
Jewish heavy metal rocker David Draiman on Friday cursed U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry after the senior diplomat said Israel’s continued insistence that it be recognized as a Jewish state is a “mistake.”
“WELL…F*** YOU VERY MUCH MR. SECRETARY,” Draiman tweeted, linking to a report on Kerry’s comments.
“I think it’s a mistake for some people to be raising it again and again as the critical decider of their attitude toward the possibility of a state, and peace,” Kerry told a U.S. House Foreign Relations Committee budget hearing on Thursday.
Recognition of Israel as a Jewish state is one of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s key demands in the current Israeli-Palestinian Authority peace negotiations. PA President Mahmoud Abbas has consistently declined to do so. Similarly, Nabil Elaraby, the head of the Arab League, called on Arab countries to take a “firm stand” against such recognition.
The Disturbed front man has recently emerged as a bold advocate for Israel. In February, he condemned the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement for harassing Scarlett Johansson over her partnership with Israeli company SodaStream. The musician also called out actress Emma Thompson for siding with “BDS Nazis” after she backed a boycott of Israel.
Last July, Draiman took on fellow rocker Roger Waters after The Algemeiner reported on his use of an inflatable pig emblazoned with a Star of David at his concerts.
UPDATE: After reading The Algemeiner‘s report on his comments, Draiman tweeted, “YUP, AND I’LL CURSE HIM AGAIN IF NECESSARY. LOL. (NOT LIKE IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE).”
