Hamas MP Sheikh Hassan Youssef on Wednesday insisted that Hamas would never recognize Israel, according to Hamas’s Arabic Palestine Information Center website.
Youssef said, “Does it make sense to ask [Hamas] to recognize Israel? The concept has nothing to do with logic and righteousness,” contradicting more hopeful statements that a recently announced Hamas-Fatah coalition would seek peace with Israel.
On Al Jazeera, Hamas political head Khaled Meshal said Hamas would do the“impossible” to facilitate an agreement with Fatah, in order for both of them together to “better able to meet the challenge of Israel, which shed lives and violated sanctities and usurped the land.”
Beyond proclamations, Hamas has been criticized for its commitment to terrorism and for indoctrinating youth with hatred towards Israel and IDF soldiers.
The Youssef interview was flagged by blogger Elder of Ziyon on Friday.
