JNS.org – It’s never a surprise for American passions about the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) to be aflame, but Tennessee State Senator Stacey Campfield stoked the fire even more than usual on Monday by employing the ever-controversial tactic of a Holocaust comparison.

“Democrats bragging about the number of mandatory sign ups for Obamacare is like Germans bragging about the number of mandatory sign ups for ‘train rides’ for Jews in the 40s,” Campfield, a Republican, wrote in a blog post.

After his language drew significant ire, Campfield clarified later on Monday, “I regret that some people miss the point of my post. It was not to offend. It was to warn. To draw attention to Obamacare and the slippery slope that I see occurring in the lives of myself, my constituents, and the rest of the country with the continued taking of freedom by the federal government.”

“In no way was my post meant to diminish or detract from the pain, suffering and loss of human life that occurred during this dark time in human history,” Campfield added. “Instead the post was meant to draw attention to the loss of freedom that we are currently experiencing. I stand by my steadfast opposition to Obamacare.”

Responding to Campfield’s clarification, the Jewish group B’nai B’rith International stated Tuesday, “When criticized publicly for his remarks, Campfield responded that ‘some people have missed the point,’ and that he stands by what he said. It is Campfield who misses the point. The use of Nazi imagery and language to disparage political opponents undermines the magnitude of the Holocaust and trivializes the murder of six million Jews.”
