In an epic battle for the top baby names in America, for the first time in over a decade, Jacob has been dethroned as number one, being replaced by Noah as the top boy’s name in 2013, the Social Security Administration announced on Friday.
Of course Noah refers to the famous Biblical Patriarch who built the ark and saved the world from God’s flood, according to the Book of Genesis. Jacob, which also refers to the Biblical Patriarch, who was the grandson of Abraham, and whom all the Tribes of Israel are descended from, has slipped down to number three on the list.
Interestingly, Noah becomes the first boy’s name not Jacob or Michael, to be be number one since 1960, when David was the top choice.
On the girl’s side, Sophia was ranked number one for the third year in a row.
