Being Jewish, and a lawyer, Andi Dorfman, the star of ABC’s hit show The Bachelorette will encourage better attitudes toward Jews, her cousin, Allison Yarrow, argued in The New York Times on Wednesday.

“If one of the most beloved franchises on television can star a complex, self-made, Southern Jewish woman, perhaps it will encourage more kindness toward a place and people commonly dismissed by the liberal elite, who gladly consume barbecue and wear farmhand chic,” Yarrow wrote.

Dorfman will aim to find a lover from among 25 suitors on season 10 of The Bachelorette, which premiered Monday on ABC. The 26-year-old assistant district attorney from Atlanta, Ga., is the first ever Jewish star of the dating show.

Dorfman left last season’s The Bachelor on her own accord after her fantasy suite date with Juan Pablo Galavis. She later called him out for being selfish and only talking about himself while on dates.

Yarrow asserted in The Times that by refusing last season’s “seemingly narcissistic bachelor” and deciding to leave the show, Dorfman showed fans that the pursuit of love should not come at the cost of one’s self.

“Andi herself said of love, ‘I don’t need it, but I want it enough to go get it.’ It’s clear who is in charge,” Yarrow wrote.

She also applauded Dorfman for bringing diversity to the show and being the kind of woman fans aspire to be like.

“Unlike her predecessors, she is praised for being smart, ambitious and opinionated. Fan girls tell her they too wish to pursue law school,” Yarrow added. “Being Jewish, she also checks a diversity box the series has been hit hard for ignoring. Her background has earned subtle criticism and even anti-Semitism — no one is troll-proof — but it contributes to making her different.”
