Four Killed in Shooting at Brussels Jewish Museum

JNS.org – Four people were killed in a shooting at the Jewish Museum of Belgium in Brussels on Saturday.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed that a Tel Aviv couple visiting Brussels as tourists was among the victims. The couple was identified as Mira and Emmanuel Riva, ages 53 and 54, respectively.
The other victims were reportedly a female volunteer at the Jewish museum and Alexandre Strens, a 23-year-old employee of the museum who succumbed to his wounds on Sunday.
On Saturday, the shooter entered the museum and immediately opened fire before swiftly leaving the scene.
“It seems that a car was double-parked and that a person went in and came out of the museum quickly after shots were fired,” said Belgian Foreign MinisterDidier Reynders, according to CNN.
Officials are investigating a possible anti-Semitic motive behind the attack.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the shooting “is the result of constant incitement against Jews and their state.”
“Slander and lies against the State of Israel continue to be heard on European soil even as the crimes against humanity and acts of murder being perpetrated in our region are systematically ignored. Our response to this hypocrisy is to constantly state the truth, continue a relentless fight against terrorism and build up our strength,” he said.
