At over 11 shekels to pop the cap of a 1/3 liter bottle, Israel’s “City That Never Sleeps” is a kinda’ pricey place to catch a beer buzz. In fact, Tel Aviv comes out at a dubious 4th place in major cities worldwide, according to a new British survey.

What’s more, at NIS 11.15 ($3.18), the cost of kicking back with a brewski on Tel Aviv’s Mediterranean shore doubled within a decade, according to Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot.

While Tel Aviv is cheaper than Oslo’s NIS 16.68 and Tokyo’s NIS 14.32, the “White City” comes out just over a shekel more than London at 9.99, according to the Go Euro blog, which based its rates on the British pound.

But, if you’re will to take the bullet and try out a taste vs price test on the local brews yourself, well, then:

“Israeli beers are making a mark on the international beer circuit,” said Shachar Hertz of Beer & Beyond, as reported a while back at Israel21c.

“We have in Israel a cadre of passionate brewmasters who use only premium ingredients and offer a range of style and flavors,” said Hertz, whose firm is a big local supplier of beer-making equipment and ingredients.

And now, according to Time Out Israel, no less than “17 licensed micro-breweries, including those started by native Israelis, produce over 100 labels.”
