Under fire by the Israeli Air Force, Army, and Navy, on one side and Hamas rockets on the other, many Gazans just want out.
“Anyone with a foreign passport has already left,” one resident told the Israeli Ma’ariv daily on Monday, adding, “I’m not planning on staying around.”
Close to 180 Palestinians have been killed – among them some 30 minors, according to Palestinians, and over 1,200 have been wounded, in air strikes on Hamas and other terror targets, despite Israeli efforts to warn them by leaflet, text, and telephone calls to evacuate targeted premises.
“I’m fed up with seeing all the explosions and destruction, being unable to sleep all night long, and being unable to reply to my little daughter’s questions that I have no answers for,” the resident said.
“I just want to shut out all the reality and watch the Mondial,” the resident added.
The Jebaliya refugee camp, located in the northern sector of the 40-kilometer-long coastal enclave, has become a hotbed of Islamic Jihad activity and rocket fire into Israel.
“You hear the jets, and can only wait for the ‘boom,'” the resident said, since there are no bomb shelters, “and pray they don’t strike close to you.”
“The reality we’re coping with for so many years is insufferable,” he said, pointedly noting that, “it’s not even worth seeking to assign blame – they’re not here with us in the woes that have befallen us from above – we’re hostages.”
