A British Member of Parliament is facing significant backlash after he tweeted an endorsement for rocket terrorism against Israel on Tuesday.
“The big question is – if I lived in #Gaza would I fire a rocket? – probably yes”, the MP wrote. “Ich bin ein #palestinian – the West must make up its mind – which side is it on?”
David Ward, the MP for Bradford East, was sharply criticized by his own party as well as others.
His Liberal Democrats party said it “utterly condemns” the comments and the Conservative party chairman, Grant Shapps, said the remarks were an “incitement to violence” and “completely irresponsible”.
“The party takes this matter very seriously and will treat it as a disciplinary issue,” a Liberal Democrat spokesperson said.
Ward has a long history of making anti-Jewish and anti-Israel comments for which he has been suspended from his party in the past.
“Am I wrong or are am I right? At long last the #Zionists are losing the battle – how long can the #apartheid State of #Israel last?” he tweeted last year. He also asked in a blog post how “the Jews,” who had suffered during the Holocaust, “could within a few years of liberation from the death camps be inflicting atrocities on Palestinians in the new state of Israel.”
