JNS.org – Israel is opening the Ovda Airport near Eilat to all international carriers in the wake of the cancelations of flights to/from Ben-Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv by many foreign airlines.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Wednesday renewed its initial 24-hour ban on U.S. airlines flying to and from Tel Aviv, saying in a statement that the ban “remains in effect for Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport for up to an additional 24 hours while the FAA continues to monitor and evaluate the situation.”
After rocket shrapnel fell in the Tel Aviv suburb of Yehud near Ben-Gurion International Airport on Tuesday, about 20 international airlines—including three U.S. airlines, due to the FAA ban—canceled all flights to and from Ben Gurion. But the airport is continuing to operate normally, with 30 flights still expected to land there Wednesday, Israel Hayom reported.
