In a brief, intense video clip released by the army Thursday, IDF troops engage Palestinian terrorists in an overnight building-to-building firefight.
In the clip, a Givati Brigade officer directs one of his soldiers’ fire, as he aims and shoots out of a hole in the wall of a structure.
“(Fire) again, he’s still moving,” the officer tells the marksman, who is shooting out of the building at gunmen across the alley.
“Cease-fire,” the officer says. “The terrorist is down,” he adds, but warns, “If there’s one, that means there are others – so keep your eyes open.”
In the 24th day of the IDF’s Operation Protective Edge to end rocket fire and tunneling into Israel by Hamas and other terrorist groups, a soldier was hit by a Palestinian sniper, according to local sources. His condition is unknown.
Fifty six soldiers and officers have died in fighting since the beginning of hostilities.
Since the start of the operation, terrorists have fired more than 2,830 rockets and mortars at Israel, according to army statistics.
“The IDF has struck over 4,205 Hamas targets with ground, naval and aerial capabilities, including dozens of tunnels,” an IDF statement said.
Palestinian reports by the Hamas-run Health Ministry say 1,400 people have been killed and more than 8,000 wounded.
The Palestinian reports, however, do not differentiate between terrorists and non-combatants, and are suspected by western governments and international media of being inflated.”
