Egyptian security officials this week apparently thwarted a planned rocket strike against Israel from the Sinai, when they seized three projectiles ready for firing, mounted on a Grad launcher south of Rafah, Israel’s Walla News said.
Working on an intelligence tip, the officials said they found the rockets, which were smuggled into the Sinai from nearby Gaza, on Sunday.
Egyptian military forces are now surrounding the area where the rockets were found.
Additionally, “Army forces were able on Sunday to destroy a large store of missiles in central Sinai using airstrikes,” according to the Egyptian Masrawy website.
“Sources confirmed to Masrawy that the information received by the security services, confirmed the smuggling of large quantities of Grad and Katyusha missiles through the tunnels, stored in an abandoned house on the outskirts of the village of Wadi Al-Amr in central Sinai.”
“Egyptian helicopters bombed the missile storage and a car transport loaded with rockets, killing two militants,” according to the report.
