Hassan Nasrallah, who heads the Lebanon-based Shi’ite terrorist group Hezbollah, is recalling his forces currently fighting alongside the Assad regime in Syria, after they reportedly succeeded in securing control of a strategic mountain area, Israel’s NRG News said Wednesday.
Hezbollah’s secretary-general made the unexpected decision, according to reports, after being briefed that the link between Damascus and Lebanon would not be cut by rebel forces.
Additionally, persistent rumors in Lebanon in recent hours are saying that in general the Shi’ite group’s presence in Syria is coming to an end, that that the group will redeploy in the Land of the Cedars, according to the report.
It’s also possible that the decision was made in light of the fact that ISIS/ISIL forces, which have strengthened in Hama, close to the Lebanon border, may try to invade that country, and fight Hezbollah on its own turf.
Hezbollah is not certain to win such a battle, since ISIS/ISIL forces have taken on and beaten even larger forces in Iraq, the report stressed.
While the strategic retreat would be coordinated with Assad forces, it would entail the return of all of Hizbullah’s fighters to beyond the international border between the two states.
